Calgro M3 Launches SAs First Off-grid Company

Category News

Wilkus Lategan of Calgro M3 explained, “We believe that in this era of tight electricity supply, any move to generate one’s own power, to be independent of Eskom, is an important element of sustainability. It has been estimated that a lack of power has cost this country 10% of GDP and businesses need to take action now to limit the negative impact on their bottom line.”

This initiative by Calgro M3 is set to assist the metro city within which many businesses operate through the alleviation of pressure on an electricity supply grid on which there is already enormous pressure. This initiative comes when Lynne Brown, Minister of Public Enterprises, warned recently of the country’s continuing vulnerability in respect to Eskom’s ability to supply power (felt most severely by industrial property, commercial property and retail property) and that the country should expect load shedding to continue for a further two years, at minimum, as both the national supplier of electrical power and the country at large deal with the shortfall in power supply.

The new venture by Calgro M3 is Calgro M3 Memorial Parks. Its focus is on the development of private memorial parks and is set to launch the Nasrec Private Memorial Park in May of 2015. In addition to creating beautiful park-like environments at the memorial site, burial sites will be put up for sale to the public in advance, currently not on offer by state cemeteries. Calgro M3 is also planning on putting together financing options to broaden their target market in this venture by offering the purchase of burial land to those who are not able to purchase it upfront.

The company has hitherto boasted a very successful track record of property development and housing initiatives across the country and aims to continue to do so with this new development.  Lategan comments, “Lessons learned in this field of alternative energy will be applied to the group’s integrated developments once teething problems have been resolved,” In its bold move to build green and ‘off-grid’, Calgro M3 will make a contribution to a greener and healthier South African economy by not drawing its power from the national grid, but will also secure its own viability.
